Role : Formulation Technology Chemist
Location : Subang Jaya
Role Overview
The Formulation Technology Chemist is responsible for driving end-to-end formulation development for personal care products, from concept through technical validation and readiness for commercialization. This role plays a critical part in translating product ideas into safe, effective, and high-performing formulations by applying strong scientific principles, structured experimentation, and market awareness.
You will independently design and execute formulation and technical studies, conduct stability, performance, and sensory evaluations, and ensure all development work complies with internal quality systems and regulatory requirements. Working closely with cross-functional stakeholders such as Marketing, Regulatory, Quality, and Manufacturing, the role ensures projects are delivered on time while meeting performance, safety, and consumer expectations.
In addition, the role contributes to innovation by staying current with market trends, emerging technologies, and competitive benchmarks in the personal care industry, while maintaining robust documentation and reporting standards to support audits, claims substantiation, and regulatory submissions.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and conduct formulation development including technical studies, system compounding, formulation assessment, product safety clearance and claim substantiation.
Capable to independently design and execute experiments. Conducting stability, performance, and sensory testing to support product development and optimization.
Plan and coordinate assigned projects with cross-function stakeholders to ensure timely delivery.
Keep up with market trends and emerging technologies in the personal care sector. Perform benchmark analysis as needed.
Maintain accurate documentation of formulations, testing procedures, and regulatory filings in accordance to company policies.
Key Requirements:
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Applied Chemistry, Oleo Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cosmetic Science, or equivalent disciplines.
Minimum Second-Class Upper qualification with CGPA ≥ 3.50.
Strong technical competency and analytical skills, with the ability to generate robust Design of Experiments (DoE) for formulation systems and technical investigations.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and disciplined in experimental execution and reporting, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all organizational levels.
Demonstrate proactiveness, perseverance, and an open innovative mindset in a fast-paced working environment.
Experience & Knowledge
Preferably minimum 3 years of R&D experience, ideally within the personal care or FMCG industry.
Proven ability to perform in a fast-paced FMCG environment with multiple concurrent projects.
Hands-on experience in formulation development, scale-up support, and project coordination.
Working knowledge of ISO 9001, NPRA regulations, and other relevant industry standards and guidelines.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive product development and commercialization.
