1. Position Summary
The Patching Engineer is responsible for executing the end‑to‑end patch management process across Windows and Linux environments to maintain the security, stability, and compliance of the organization’s IT infrastructure. This role ensures that operating systems and applications are updated in a timely and controlled manner, following established maintenance windows, change processes, and service-level requirements.
The Patching Engineer performs patch assessment, planning, deployment, validation, and reporting using enterprise patching tools such as WSUS, Canonical Landscape, and other automation platforms. The role includes monitoring system health, troubleshooting patch failures, performing pre‑patch backup and restoration procedures, and coordinating with infrastructure, application, and security teams to minimize service disruptions.
The ideal candidate has strong hands‑on technical expertise in OS patching for both Windows and Linux platforms, experience with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, and the ability to follow structured processes with a high degree of accuracy. This role is critical in supporting the organization’s cybersecurity posture and operational resilience by ensuring consistent patch compliance and timely remediation of vulnerabilities.
2. Key Responsibilities
Patching & System Maintenance:
•
Perform OS and application patching on Windows and Linux systems using enterprise patching tools such as WSUS, Canonical Landscape, and other relevant platforms.
•
Execute operating system upgrades across Windows and Linux environments in accordance with change and maintenance schedules.
•
Conduct virtual machine snapshots and backups on VMware prior to patching or system changes to ensure recoverability.
•
Perform restore operations on VMware and server environments when required.
•
Validate patch deployments, troubleshoot patch failures, and ensure systems return to a healthy state after patching.
Monitoring & Incident Handling:

Use SCOM as a daily monitoring tool to track system health, detect issues, and initiate corrective actions.
•
Respond to email alerts and assigned ServiceNow ITSM tickets, providing timely updates and ensuring issues are resolved within SLA.
•
Create and manage Incident, Service Request, and Change Request records in ServiceNow following ITIL processes.
Collaboration & Teamwork:
•
Coordinate with infrastructure, application, and operations teams to ensure successful patch cycles with minimal service disruption.
•
Contribute to maintaining healthy team dynamics by collaborating effectively and providing constructive feedback to improve overall team performance.
Operational Support:
•
Provide 24x7 rotating on-call support to respond to critical issues, patching emergencies, or system failures.
•
Perform patching, upgrades, and system shutdown/startup activities during off-peak hours to minimize business impact.
Documentation & Reporting:
•
Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation, including patching procedures, SOPs, and runbooks.
•
Prepare and deliver daily and weekly progress reports on patching activities, compliance levels, and outstanding issues.
•
Review and update business Service Level Agreement (SLA) documents to ensure they reflect current operational practices.

4. Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor in Computer Science or related discipline
•
Good written and verbal communication skills in English, Mandarin and Cantonese is a plus.
Years of Experience:
•
2 Years of relevant working experiences in Windows/Linux Patching technology
Technical Stack:
•
Basic understanding of Windows/Linux operating systems
•
Knowing in virtualization (VMware) technology is a plus.
