As part of the Rahmah Basic Aid (SARA) scheme and in conjunction with National Day on August 31, every Malaysian citizen aged 18 and above will receive a one-off cash aid of RM100. This aid can be used to purchase essential goods at over 4100 major supermarkets and grocery stores nationwide, including Mydin, Lotus's, Econsave, and 99 Speedmart, from August 31 to December 31. This initiative is expected to benefit approximately 22 million people with an allocation of RM2 billion.
In a move set to provide relief to consumers, the price of RON 95 will be lowered to RM1.99 per liter. However, this price reduction will be implemented once the government successfully puts into place a targeted fuel subsidy mechanism. This step aims to ensure that subsidies primarily benefit those who genuinely need them, thereby reducing the financial burden on daily consumers.
To foster a spirit of unity and allow citizens to celebrate the unique significance of Malaysia Day on September 16, the Prime Minister has declared September 15 (Monday) as an additional public holiday. This measure is also hoped to encourage people to spend quality time with their families in their hometowns or engage in domestic tourism, thus boosting the local economy.
The government's commitment to addressing the cost of living is further reinforced by increasing the allocation for the Jualan Rahmah MADANI program. The allocation has been doubled from RM300 million to RM600 million, enabling the expansion of sales points to all 600 state constituencies. This will ensure more citizens have access to essential goods at more affordable prices.
In an effort to shield the public from increasing cost burdens, the government has decided to postpone the toll rate hikes for 10 highways that were originally scheduled to implement price increases this year based on concession agreements. This decision allows commuters to continue enjoying the current toll rates, easing daily travel expenses.
Collectively, these five initiatives announced by the Prime Minister reflect the government's steadfast commitment to supporting Malaysians in navigating current economic challenges, fostering a sense of togetherness, and enhancing the overall quality of life. These measures are expected to bring a significant positive impact to the people across the nation.
