The Founder Wacoal was established in 1949 by Mr Koichi Tsukamoto (1920-1998) in Japan. Having experienced a bitter war, Mr Tsukamoto was driven to dedicate the life he had been given to start a business that would benefit society. From solely marketing the first bra pads in Japan in 1949 (when Western style intimate apparels were not generally available to women), the steadfast Mr Tsukamoto turned Wacoal into a renowned global intimate apparel company by the year 2000 with a clear-cut 50-year plan. Service & Social Responsibility Staying true to the Founder’s belief, Wacoal Malaysia has been embarking on a journey to educate ladies on how they can best bring out the beauty of their bodies with good-fit and functional undergarments, since its establishment in 2003 in Malaysia. Well-trained and experienced Beauty Advisors are on hand to provide personal consultations at each and every Wacoal outlet throughout Malaysia. Other initiatives include teaching in institutions and academies, and being the official lingerie sponsor of Miss Malaysia Universe beauty pageant. On a wider scale, Wacoal Malaysia has been promoting annually the Pink Ribbon Campaign for early detection of breast cancer through various channels all over the country. Wacoal Malaysia also provides information at its head office in Petaling Jaya on ‘Remamma’ – Wacoal’s unique services on prosthesis and special brassieres dedicated to assisting post breast cancer operative women regain their confidence. Quality Assurance In line with Wacoal’s founding objective and mission, the company places quality as its top priority. Guided by aspects such as product safety, fashion, function, practicality and value-for-money, the production team takes it a step further by testing the creation. On the production line, standard operating procedures are precise and the quality of each process is strictly examined. Over the decades, Wacoal has fully mastered the technical know-how on lingerie making and has constantly developed and enhanced its equipment and knowledge in order to uphold its traditions and create products that are deserving of a Wacoal label! Human Resource Centre Wacoal made beauty into a science. At the famed Human Science Research Center, there is on-going research based upon the analysis of vast quantities of data collected globally; product development that gives shape and form to these insights; and quality control that makes sure the products are safe. It is the combining of these three kinds of know-how that results in the birth of a Wacoal product. For over 40 years now, the Human Science Research Center has been collecting physical data from one thousand women a year from girls in their late teens to women in their sixties. Taking regular measurements from the same women over a long time frame enable Wacoal to gain profound insights into the physical changes that accompany the ageing process. By taking and applying the scientific approach, the Human Science Center conjured up products that had never existed before.
