Summary
Perform installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems (commercial and/or residential) to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation. Deliver high-quality customer service, document work accurately, and support continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC equipment: chillers, rooftop units, split systems, heat pumps, boilers, controls, and refrigeration components.
Perform preventive maintenance, system testing, and commissioning per manufacturer specs and company SOPs.
Install HVAC equipment and associated controls, piping, and electrical work to code and project requirements.
Calibrate, program, and troubleshoot building automation systems (BAS) and control panels.
Respond to service calls, prioritize tasks, and manage time to meet response and completion targets.
Keep accurate service reports, time sheets, parts usage logs, and work orders in company systems (CMMS/CRM).
Advise customers on system performance, energy-saving opportunities, and recommended repairs/upgrades.
Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and test equipment; request replacements and spare parts as needed.
Follow safety procedures and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA refrigerant handling rules, and local codes.
Mentor junior technicians and assist with on-the-job training when required.
Qualifications
2+ years practical HVAC service experience (commercial/residential) preferred; apprenticeship or trade school a plus.
EPA 608 certification required; additional certifications preferred (NATE, HVAC/R certificate, refrigeration license).
Strong electrical, refrigeration, controls, and mechanical skills.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying environmental conditions.
Skills & Competencies
Diagnostic/problem-solving mindset; able to read schematics and wiring diagrams.
Proficient with HVAC tools and test instruments (multimeter, manifold gauge, psychrometer, combustion analyzer).
Good communication and customer-service skills.
Time management and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Basic computer skills; experience with service management software (ServiceTitan, FieldEdge, etc.) advantageous.
