Carrying out detailed design to a high standard and tight timeframes for complex projects;
Applying a deeper understanding of Engineering principles to devise and deliver practical and economical solutions to more complex problems.
Testing, measuring and evaluating solutions.
Responsible for identifying professional risks, statutory responsibilities, liabilities and hazards.
Producing outcomes that require innovative thoughts and intellectual rigor.
Challenging current practice to identify opportunities for improvement through a multi-disciplined approach.
Developing and apply new engineering practices.
Analyzing client requirements for the design criteria to ensure that specifications are included in the requirements;
Supporting other streams in the delivery of high standard designs, verification and onsite supervision.
Supervision of drawing production for assigned tasks is undertaken in accordance with SMEC procedures as appropriate.
Preparing complex client and technical reports and undertaking peer reviews.
Providing guidance and support to others;
Interacting with appropriate professionals and specialists to achieve agreed outcomes and develop broader knowledge;
Identifying sources of advice for design proposals with non-standard engineering requirements;
Seeking input from internal and external sources to enhance communication;
Proactively sharing knowledge to provide technical support;
Mentoring others in areas of engineering focus;
Building and maintaining internal and external networks and relationships;
Communicating openly and regularly with the appropriate contributors and stakeholders;
Proactively liaising with other design disciplines to develop and maintain design co-ordination;
Actively participating in and where appropriate, leading project and team meetings, contributing ideas, energy and enthusiasm.
Contribute to and/or make recommendations for personnel management activities as required, under delegated authority levels.
Identifying opportunities in the market, leading SMEC’s proposal, and securing new work.
Developing and maintaining client relationships.
Actively enhancing SMEC’s market brand presence through ongoing professional activities.
Assisting in the management and training of staff including selection.
Contributing to the overall management and profitability of the discipline;
Effectively managing resources, including staff;
Identifying social, environmental and financial issues with the proposed engineering solutions;
Demonstrating commercial awareness, providing regular progress reports;
Researching for alternative solutions via internet and library resources to assist in ensuring that solutions both make commercial sense and meet the clients requirements;
Assuming responsibility for the accuracy and correctness of calculations prepared for design;
Consulting with Manager on maintaining agreed utilization rates and ensuring own time is recorded promptly in the timesheet system.
Job Specification
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
Minimum 5 years of working experience as a Geotechnical Engineer.
Prepare quality technical reports and prepare quality proposals on small to medium projects;
Be effective in managing client relationships and expectations (internal and external).
