Supervisor - Mechanical Technician (Data Centre)

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Receive, inspect, and stage module shells and incoming mechanical components against the project BOM and delivery docket; report shortages or damage immediately.

• Install internal structural elements including floor panels (access-flooring tiles and pedestals), ceiling panels, internal partitions, cable tray, cable ladder, conduit runs, and containment systems (hot-aisle / cold-aisle containment).

• Mount and anchor server racks / cabinets, power rails, blanking panels, and accessories to the specified layout drawing.

• Install generator base frames, acoustic enclosures, anti-vibration mounts, and exhaust system components where applicable.

• Fit and secure mechanical equipment such as precision air conditioning units (PAC), in-row cooling units, UPS static plant, and battery cabinets using approved fasteners and vibration isolators per manufacturer installation instructions.

• Fabricate and install minor steelwork, brackets, and supports using angle grinder, drill press, and hand tools; perform light MIG / SMAW welding where required.

• Assemble and pressure-test chilled water and refrigerant pipework spools (stub connections) in liaison with the Cooling Technician.

• Install entry glands, cable entry plates, and fire-stopping systems at all wall and floor penetrations.

• Verify dimensional accuracy of installed equipment against as-built drawings using measuring tape, spirit level, laser level, and plumb bob.

• Operate forklift and pallet jack for goods movement; assist crane operator as signal person / slinger for overhead lifts.

• Support the FAT process by physically demonstrating that all mechanical items are correctly installed and accessible for maintenance.

• Complete daily production records and promptly raise NCRs for any non-conforming installations.

Qualifications & Education

• Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering / Metal Fabrication / Plant Maintenance, or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering — mandatory.

• Trade Certificate as a fitter and turner, boilermaker, or sheet metal worker from a recognised institution — advantageous.

Forklift operator licence (Class B or above)

Working at Heights certification

NIOSH-accredited MIG / SMAW welding competency certificate

Overhead crane signal person / slinger competency (DOSH-recognised)

Gas cutting certification

Confined space entry certificate

First Aid (St John Ambulance or Red Crescent Malaysia)



Technical Skills

• Proficient in use of power tools (impact driver, angle grinder, drill press), hand tools, and measuring instruments.

• Ability to read mechanical assembly drawings, isometric pipe drawings, and structural layouts.

• Competent in manual handling, rigging, and use of lifting equipment (chain blocks, slings, shackles).

• Working knowledge of torque specifications, bolt grades, and fastener selection for structural applications.

• Familiarity with cable management systems (Unistrut, Legrand, Niedax or equivalent).

• Basic knowledge of refrigerant handling procedures and pipe pressure testing advantageous.

Experience

Minimum 3 years of mechanical assembly, plant fitout, or industrial installation experience. Exposure to data centre fitout, modular building construction, or packaged electrical equipment assembly is highly regarded.

Language & Other Requirements

• Proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia; working English for technical documentation.

• Basic Mandarin communication advantageous.

• Physically fit; able to perform manual handling in a factory environment in accordance with

Malaysian Manual Handling Regulations.
